Jobs market remains buoyant, says ONS
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revealed new data showing that the jobs market is performing well in the face of economic uncertainty.
According to official labour market statistics from the ONS, there was an increase in the number of employment opportunities the three months to February, Online Recruitment magazine reports.
Furthermore, the ONS found that the number of people in employment rose and there were fewer redundancies.
John Philpott, the Chief Economist at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), commented that the current economic problems do not seem to have affected the employment market.
However, the Centre for Economic and Business Research revealed last week that its predictions for job losses in the City this year may have been too conservative.
Mr Philpott noted that the ONS figures contradict other polls, saying: 'The official jobs statistics paint a far rosier picture of the state of the labour market than independent surveys, including those conducted regularly by the CIPD and KPMG.'
