IT job demand weakens
Demand for IT specialists is falling, particularly in London, new figures suggest.
Over the past 12 months, the number of employment opportunities in the capital's IT sector has dropped, according to Contractor UK.
March's Report on Jobs from KPMG and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation shows that it is not just the financial sector that is suffering in the current climate, stated Alan Nolan, the Director at KPMG.
'The banking crisis is clearly taking its toll as the financial sector, as well as IT and computing, are among the sectors where demand for both permanent and temporary staff is weakest,' he remarked.
Furthermore, Hugo Sellert, Head of Economic Research at Monster, noted that London was one of the only areas to show a fall in IT employment opportunities.
Overall, an 8% drop in the demand for IT workers was revealed by last month's Monster Employment Index.
However, most industries saw a dip in demand in March, with the legal sector the only category to buck the trend and record jobs growth.
