Many graduate physiotherapists are unemployed, say Lib Dems
Graduates who studied physiotherapy at university are struggling to find suitable employment, new figures have revealed.
Obtained by the Liberal Democrats, the research revealed that half of those who graduated in 2007 are unemployed, while those who are in work are in junior positions or on short-term contracts.
Sandra Gidley, Liberal Democrat health spokesperson, said that many newly qualified physiotherapists must be feeling 'unappreciated' and 'disillusioned.'
'The government is failing graduates across the health sector and is in danger of driving young people away from many professions. This is a huge waste of talent and public money,' she remarked.
Ms Gidley added that the findings are a 'disgrace.'
Meanwhile, the British Medical Association has reported that many junior doctors are being pressured to work unpaid overtime due to staff shortages.
The BMA revealed that 29% of staff rotas have at least one unfilled role.
