Students advised to seek work experience
Undergraduates should search for work experience while they study at university, one recruitment expert has stated.
Chief Executive of ClickAJob, Yngve Traberg, remarked that in today's competitive graduate-employment market having a degree is simply not enough to guarantee a good job.
Students should be actively seeking out experience in order to get 'an edge' over other degree holders, he said.
Mr Traberg remarked: 'Show you're resourceful enough to go out and find the right experience - plus demonstrate you have hands-on familiarity with actually doing it - and your job application stands head and shoulders above all others.'
Such activities show 'commitment,' he added, describing work experience alongside a degree as 'vital.'
Mr Traberg's comments follow similar remarks from Margaret Dane of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services, who last week urged undergraduates to seek employment opportunities, placements and internships during their time at university.
