Nurses' job-hunting struggles revealed
Many health professionals are finding that seeking employment after leaving university is becoming gradually more difficult, the Liberal Democrats have stated.
According to figures released by the party, unemployment among nurses and midwives six months after leaving university has increased.
The number of health workers out of work six months after graduation has risen by 80% over three years, the data revealed.
Shadow Health Secretary for the Liberal Democrats, Norman Lamb, said that many workers were losing faith in the profession.
'It's time for the Government to put in place a long-term workforce strategy that prevents this feast or famine approach to NHS recruitment,' he remarked.
Such problems are adding to the falling morale problems in the health service, Mr Lamb added.
Meanwhile, Government funding cuts announced in the Budget last week will mean public-service workers will see their standard of living fall, the Trades Union Congress has said.
