Graduates told they are savvier than ever

Graduates today have an advantage over previous university leavers as they possess more knowledge and confidence, one expert has said.

Chief Executive of the National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship (NCGE), Ian Robertson, noted that graduates have changed during the past two decades.

'Over the past 20 years the profile [of graduates] has changed, largely, for four reasons,' he said.

Mr Robertson remarked that the advent of technology in the business world has 'revolutionised' communications and thus the opportunities open to university leavers.

'Graduates are more savvy and have far more information and support than ever before,' he stated.

He added that more undergraduates are choosing to work while they study and the increasing amount of money available is also affecting the options open to people leaving university.

Figures from the NCGE have revealed that graduates are now responsible for 70% to 80% of the fastest-growing businesses in the UK.
