Jobs created in engineering
Strong jobs growth in the engineering and manufacturing sector has been recorded by the latest employment index.
Research by Roevin and Mandis Business Intelligence has revealed that during February 1,090 positions were created in the sector, Online Recruitment magazine reports.
Compared to the same month a year earlier, this figure has increased by 60%.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, engineering bosses in the North East of England told the Evening Gazette that the local workforce needs more skills training.
Keith Gallagher, the Managing Director of Roevin, noted that the rise in jobs may be partly because of the strong period of growth the UK manufacturing industry has seen over the past 12 months.
'The figures from this month's research are extremely positive for the engineering and manufacturing sectors, and highlight an upsurge in job demand across a number of industry areas,' he remarked.
He added that a considerable number of jobs were also created in the chemicals, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology sector.
