Online job searches described as increasingly popular

Recruitment websites are becoming increasingly popular with jobseekers, the National Online Recruitment Audience Survey has revealed.

Following yesterday's claim from jobs.ac.uk that 2008 will be a year of proactive job searching, the poll, conducted by Enhance Media, found that 9% only use online resources to hunt for a new job, reflecting a 50% increase from 2006.

Managing Director of Enhance Media, Tim Elkington, commented: 'This comprehensive survey shows that for an increasing number of jobseekers, the internet is providing everything they need to find a new job.

'The results also show that more people are getting jobs and jobseekers are far more directed about where to look.'

Mr Elkington noted that five years ago, jobseekers were using seven websites to search for jobs, while now they are only using four.

Out of the 40,000 people questioned by the company, 80% had applied to a position they found on the web.
