Universities offer employment opportunities
Students may not have considered working for a university so soon after leaving one, but according to one recruitment specialist, higher-education (HE) institutions offer a number of opportunities.
Andrew Gordon, the Director of jobs.ac.uk, pointed out that there are a number of research roles in commercial and academic sectors for those qualified in scientific subjects.
'There is a big variety of career opportunities within universities and HE institutions, which include management, marketing and business development roles as well as the traditional academic roles,' he said.
It has recently been suggested by Victoria Winkler, an adviser for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, that flexible working is now an important factor for many graduate job hunters.
Mr Gordon added that as graduates become savvy to the employment market, issues such as these are becoming more significant.
'Jobseekers are looking not only for a challenging role, but are interested in a company's culture,' Mr Gordon remarked.
