Survey finds money is least important for IT jobseekers

A desire to work on new and exciting projects is what is motivating those in the IT sector to look for new work, a new survey has revealed.

Salary is apparently unimportant to most IT professionals looking for a new position, with only 6% looking for bigger paycheques in a new job, the Conchango survey discovered.

A third of those questioned by the firm said career progression was also important, Online Recruitment reports.

Other factors for moving jobs included the reputation of an employer and training opportunities.

Changing positions is likely to be fairly easy for IT workers, as Alex Lawson of CV Screen recently noted the strength of the IT employment sector: 'The London IT jobs market remains strong and we are currently experiencing very high demand for staff at the beginning of 2008.'

In terms of finding the right job opportunities, the Conchango poll discovered that 43% found positions through advertising, 34% applied for roles based on friend or colleague referrals and 12% said they had been headhunted.

A further 3% discovered job openings through blogs.
