Junior doctor job warning
Junior doctors are facing increased competition for jobs after they graduate from medical school, it has emerged.
The warning comes from NHS Employers, which represents trusts in England on workforce issues, as there are only 9,000 specialist training posts available for an expected 23,000 applicants - according to Department of Health figures.
This follows a ruling from the Court of Appeal that means junior doctors trained outside of the UK will be able to apply for specialist training positions, meaning UK graduates will not have priority as the government had hoped.
Sian Thomas from the organisation focused on the positive side of the developments.
'One could argue that the more competition you have the better quality you will get.
'It is a good thing for patients that there is competition for jobs - it should mean they get the best doctors wherever they live,' she said.
