UK graduates lose out to foreign nationals, says expert
Foreign nationals are a preferred choice for employers rather than UK graduates, one expert has said.
According to Richard Lambert, the Director General of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), companies are favouring the employability skills of foreign nationals instead of homegrown graduates.
'I've lost count of the number of times that employers have told me depressing stories about how the skills and employability of their central European - often Polish - recruits compare favourably with those of the domestic labour pool,' he remarked.
He added that businesses who struggle to find skilled UK graduates can 'perfectly well recruit them elsewhere'.
Mr Lambert commented that the decreased quality of university leavers was blamed by many employers on the increase of students.
Online Recruitment magazine recently reported that a Talent Q survey has revealed that university leavers suffer from poor communication skills in the workplace due to a lack of confidence and faltering resilience.
