Graduates should get practical experience, expert says
Graduates would benefit from getting practical experience in the workplace, one expert has suggested.
Head of Communities at Working Links Jenni Newberry stated that many former students can benefit from placements and internships.
'Through our experience we know that practical experience in the workplace plays a vital role in upskilling and preparing young people for the world of work,' she said.
Employers will also benefit, Ms Newberry added, as they will often feel more confident in taking on someone who has previous experience.
One-to-one support from Job Centre Plus and job clubs introduced through the Backing Young Britain campaign are also vital in helping graduates who are unemployed access support and information to help them enter the workforce.
Yvette Cooper, Lord Mandelson, Ed Balls and John Denham launched the Backing Young Britain Campaign earlier this week and it aims to unite business and government to provide opportunities to young people.
