Graduates need to do their research, expert says

Graduates should not waste time applying for jobs they are unlikely to get and would benefit from additional research instead, one specialist has suggested.

Director of External Relations at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation Tom Hadley said former students are better advised to concentrate on jobs that are 'feasible'.

He remarked: 'In order to do that, do some research, speak to recruitment consultants and try and get feedback from people who on a daily basis are speaking to employers.'

While university leavers might benefit from being more specific, Mr Hadley added, it is wise to note that most people will not find a perfect job straight away.

Obtaining a position as a temp is probably not what the majority of graduates want, he stated, but it does provide experience of the working environment.

A survey commissioned by the Learning and Skills Council and published yesterday (July 26th) discovered that 82% of students intend to stay in education despite one-fifth fearing they do not have the money.ADNFCR-1252-ID-19271497-ADNFCR
