Graduates should remain in the UK, expert suggests
Graduates coming out of university should avoid moving to another country to escape the current economic climate unless they have a particular skill set, one specialist has claimed.
Chairman of membership body The Recruitment Society Steve Huxman said that former students would be well advised to stay in the UK unless their qualifications provide them with a significant advantage in their new geographical location.
He remarked: 'There is also the risk that if you are lucky enough to find an opening abroad and then it gets culled early due to the downturn you are going to be stuck.'
People in this situation may find it more difficult to obtain a new position than if they were in the UK, Mr Huxman added.
A recent press release by the Confederation of British Industry urged British employers to do their utmost in making the country an attractive destination for jobs. It also found that many bosses are trying to retain staff with flexible working schemes.
