KPMG report suggests job market recovery
The job market could be recovering from the effects of the recession, suggests a new report by graduate recruiter KPMG in conjunction with the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).
The study revealed that while vacancies were still in decline in May, it had fallen to its slowest rate of contraction in seven months.
KPMG Partner and Head of Business Services Mike Stevens implied this could mean the economy is recovering.
He said: 'There is now some reason to hope that the UK jobs market has overcome the worst, at least for this phase of the recession.'
Companies seem less eager to make staff redundant and may even be considering recruiting, he suggested.
The report also showed the number of staff being employed in permanent positions was at its slowest rate of decline in the last ten months. Similarly, the fall in appointments for temporary positions had reached an eight-month low.
KPMG was recently awarded for its family-friendly policies by the Working Families' organisation.
