CBI: Graduates need work experience
Work experience is vital for those looking for graduate jobs in an increasingly tough job market, it has been claimed.
According to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), students need to gain first-hand knowledge of the workplace and acquire essential employment skills while still at university.
Richard Lambert, Director-General of the CBI, said that many universities are prepared to help students gain work experience during their degree.
'Businesses don't expect graduates to arrive on day one fully trained, but what they do value in graduates are their people skills, a focus on the customer and a keenness to solve problems,' he commented.
A new report by the CBI and Universities UK highlights the importance of skills such as problem-solving and team working for graduates.
The CBI is the premier lobbying organisation for UK business on national and international issues.
It works with the UK government, policy-makers and worldwide legislators to promote UK firms.
