Volunteering could improve a CV, expert says
Getting involved in national Student Volunteering Week could be a great way to boost your CV and improve your chances of getting a graduate job, it has been claimed.
The theme of this year's event, which takes place from February 23rd to March 1st, is 'Celebrating Success: Overcoming Challenges'.
Andrea Grace Rannard, Head of Student Volunteering at Volunteering England, wrote in The Independent newspaper that doing charitable work can give a job-hunter the edge over other candidates.
She commented: 'In the midst of recession, it is unsurprising that graduate recruiters can afford to be particularly selective, demanding more skills and experience from students and graduates to fill fewer graduate positions.'
Volunteering England aims to support and increase the quality and accessibility of volunteering throughout England.
Opportunities to volunteer are available in areas including animal welfare, the environment, sport, the arts and campaigning.
