More UK students leave for America

Increased awareness of funding, larger course bases and better facilities are tempting UK students to study degrees in American universities, it has emerged.

Educational institutions in the UK, such as St Paul's Girls' School and Cheltenham Ladies' College have reported larger amounts of students applying to US universities, according to The Times.

The amount of British Yale applicants has also risen from 74 to 234 in the last ten years, the newspaper reported.

Master of Wellington College, Anthony Seldon, commented: 'American universities […] offer more to British students. Their courses are broader, the facilities and opportunities are better, the education is more holistic and the student body more nationally diverse.'

Every undergraduate in Britain should consider studying at American institutions or another foreign country, Mr Seldon advised.

Recent figures calculated by accommodationforstudents.com revealed London to be the most expensive place to study in England, with the average weekly rent being £102.65.
