Govt to offer young adults funding for skills training

The government has announced a new plan designed to encourage young adults around the country to develop skills that should boost their employability.

Anyone aged between 19 and 25 who does not have three A-Levels will be entitled to claim a free place on training courses or internships as part of what ministers are describing as an effort to help young people gain 'access to a skills account'.

It is estimated that the value of the course set to be offered for free will be around £7,000 per person and close to 100,000 people are expected to benefit form the initiative over the course of the next three years.

'Our aim is to give everyone the opportunity to make the most of their talents and secure their own prosperity through improving their chances to get and keep the jobs of the future,' said Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills John Denham.

Earlier this week, the government announced the injection of around £400m into the education, with the aim of seeing 90% of 19-year-olds in Britain gain five good GCSEs by 2020.ADNFCR-1252-ID-18636814-ADNFCR
