    Cambridge changes application process

Potential students applying to the University of Cambridge will no longer have to fill out a separate application form, the university said.

The idea behind the move is to take away any possible perception that artificial barriers exist in the application process. The university hopes that the move will help encourage applications from families that would not traditionally apply to the institution.

For decades the form and its associated £10 fee have been a feature of the application process after it was brought in to give Cambridge admissions tutors access to detailed student information before it was circulated to all universities by UCAS.

The announcement comes during the same week that the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Archbishop of York visit the university to talk about faith and society.

Dr Geoff Parks, Director of Admissions for the Cambridge colleges, said: 'We have been looking forward to the day when we could discontinue our separate application form since the university started work on the new internal student records system, CamSIS.'

He added that the institution is 'delighted' that the process is becoming a reality.
