72% of young people report university aspirations
Nearly three-quarters of young people believe they will continue into higher education, according to new research.
A survey of students aged between 11 and 16 conducted by the Sutton Trust - which aims to increase university access for under-represented groups - reveals that the number of respondents who believe it is fairly or very likely they will have a university education is the highest since the study began in 2003. -

Students warned about effects of credit crunch

University students have been warned that they may have to seek alternative forms of funding due to the impact of the economic slowdown on their parents.
The students' union, NUS, revealed that although no effects of the credit crisis have appeared to hit the student population, parents' income may become affected.
Traditionally cash-strapped students are eligible to receive loans in order to pay for living expenses and tuition fees. However, the amount received is calculated according to household income. -

Science graduates 'benefit from work placement'
Work placement opportunities are likely to help science graduates when they enter the job market, according to one expert.
Brian Heap, who wrote Degree Courses Offers, told the Telegraph that the structure of many science graduates' courses is responsible for their higher employment rate.
He said that the sandwich structure of many science degrees - in which a year of work experience is taken in between two or three years of study - is invaluable for learning real-world skills and improving marketability.
