New boss at Greggs talks about transition
Ken McMeikan, the new Chief Executive of graduate jobs provider Greggs, has discussed taking the reigns at the high street bakery chain.
Speaking to nebusiness.co.uk, he said the transition period in which he took over from predecessor Sir Michael Darrington had been 'as good a handover as anyone can ask for'.
He commented: 'I've been working with Mike as a non-executive since August and this has enabled me to get round the whole of the country and over to Belgium to visit the shops and the bakers.'
Over the last few years, Greggs has experienced considerable success with the opening of 1,000 new stores across the UK. Plans are also afoot to expand into industrial estates and workplaces.
Most recently, The Western Mail reported that a new branch of the bakers had opened in St David's Shopping Centre in Cardiff city centre, creating 18 new jobs.
