BAE wins commendation for renewable energy development
BAE Systems has been awarded a commendation for its innovative approach to solving the problems associated with wind turbines and radar systems.
The company reported that the prize from the Renewable Energy Association for ingenuity recognised its work in modifying radar electronics and positioning wind farms more effectively to mitigate their impact on navigation systems, maintaining the safety and security of aviation operations.
Figures from the British Wind Energy Association indicate that 4.7 gigawatts worth of renewable energy projects are delayed as a result of objections by military or civil aviation organisations, but BAE Systems claimed that its technology has helped to unlock schemes generating 500 megawatts of renewable power.
John Mills, head of strategy for new business at BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies, explained that it has developed a 'systematic approach to the technical analysis and resolution that enables economically viable solutions'.
Meanwhile, BAE Systems has completed its acquisition in the US of an Arizona-based maker of small unmanned aircraft systems, Advanced Ceramics Research.
