1. What did you do to get this work-experience opportunity?

I submitted an online application form, completed an online analysis test and attended an assessment centre, which involved giving a presentation, an interview and a group exercise.

2. What sort of projects did you work on?

'I submitted an application form, completed an analysis test and attended an assessment centre.'

I worked in the corporate department for one week and the EPC (Energy, Projects and Construction) team for one week and was given tasks typical of those that a trainee solicitor would do.

For example, I was involved in research for different team members, and I proofread contracts and articles, and drafted share-transfer forms.

3. How much were you able to contribute?

All of the work that I did was useful for the solicitors that I was assisting.

4. What did you enjoy the most?

The opportunity to work alongside trainees and solicitors while they were working on transactions was extremely enjoyable because it gave me a real insight into the type of environment that they work in.

5. What did you enjoy the least?

'The opportunity to work alongside trainees and solicitors gave me a real insight into the type of environment that they work in.'

The assessment day was challenging!

6. What is the most important thing you learned?

The most important thing for me to learn about was the culture of the firm and its working environment. Experiencing two weeks at the firm was the perfect opportunity to do this.

In addition, the experience emphasised that there are certain skills that are vital for a solicitor to posses and utilise at all times, including excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), a high attention to detail and an ability to work as part of a team.

7. Has your choice of career changed as a result of your period of work experience?

The work experience has confirmed that my choice of career was the right one for me personally.
