Training

On-the-job training to pass the examinations of the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents. Courses on intellectual property law are also available at Queen Mary, University of London, University of Manchester, Bournemouth University and Brunel University.

Tips for success

Make a lot of applications as patent agencies only have a small number of vacancies. However, ensure that you target your applications to each company you are applying to.

Study existing templates and practise writing descriptions of everyday articles, such as light bulbs, to develop your ability to express yourself succinctly.
