LPC entry requirements

To be accepted on to the LPC you need a qualifying law degree or, if you didn’t take law as a first degree, a conversion course (Common Professional Examination, Graduate Diploma in Law or a senior-status degree in law).

Course providers may not specify a specific degree result required to get a place (ie must have a 2.1) but in reality you need a good degree as proof of the intellectual skills needed to underpin effective legal practice.

In a highly competitive environment, both for LPC places in some institutions and for training contracts, weaker academic candidates can find it difficult.

Registration with the Law Society

You also need to be enrolled as a student member with the Law Society in order to start your LPC. This is done by applying to the Solicitors Regulation Authority, the independent regulatory body of the Law Society.
