Licensed conveyancers work in property, but sometimes give advice on probate and related litigation. They operate mainly in private practice, but can also work for firms of solicitors or licensed conveyancers, local authorities, banks and building societies.

Their primary job is to handle the documentation on property sales and purchases.

Training to be a licensed conveyancer

Becoming a member of the Council for Licensed Conveyancers usually entails two years’ work in a law firm while studying for the Council’s examinations on a distance-learning basis.

Graduate salaries

Salaries vary, but the starting salary for a trainee is between £12,500 and £14,000. An experienced conveyancer may expect to earn between £18,000 and £35,000, and partners or owners of conveyancing firms could earn up to £50,000 a year.
