You might join the Civil Service as an engineer in departments such as the Ministry of Defence or the Department of Trade & Industry, but you should also consider becoming an administrator in another civil service department.

You could be working in a Minister’s office on policy issues or pursuing a project such as the procurement of defence or health service equipment.

Fast Stream

Fast Stream is the Civil Service’s accelerated graduate training programme. There are science and engineering schemes available as well as more general ones.

Successful recruits have a wide range of skills including logical, analytical, numerate problem solving abilities and a proficiency with words.

Graduate salaries

Starting salaries are in the region of £21,500.
